Each cycle is designed for a specific type of fabric or level of soiling. Using the right cycle keeps your clothes in better condition and gets them cleaner.
Wash cycles explained

Always check the label sewn inside your garment. The symbols on it tell you exactly what temperature and spin speed are safe for that fabric.
Detergent tips
Use liquid detergent for cold or low-temperature washes - powder may not dissolve fully.
Never exceed the MAX line in the detergent drawer. Too much detergent leaves residue on clothes and inside the machine.
Use a separate fabric softener in the softener compartment (usually marked with a flower symbol).
For a drum clean cycle, use a washing machine cleaner tablet instead of normal detergent.
