Every Feature on Our Semi-Automatic Washing Machines, Explained
From the heavy wash pulsator to the double magic filter, here's what each feature on our semi-automatic range actually does and why it matters.
Spec sheets list a semi-automatic washing machine's features in a couple of lines, a pulsator, a steel drum, a filter, a buzzer, without saying what any of it actually does for your wash. Here's a closer look at each feature on our range, from the 7kg EGWM-7.0 up to the 12kg EGWM-12.0, and why it's there.
The Heavy Wash Pulsator Does the Real Work
At the base of the wash tub sits a disc-shaped pulsator that spins back and forth rather than continuously in one direction. That reversing motion drives clothes through a strong current of water and detergent, which is what actually lifts dirt out of the fabric. It's a simpler mechanism than a motor-driven tumbling drum, and that simplicity is exactly why it handles heavily soiled work clothes, bedsheets, and towels well without needing a long automated cycle.
Diamond Steel Drum
The wash tub itself is a Diamond Steel Drum across every capacity in our range, from 7kg to 12kg. Steel doesn't rust or crack the way some budget plastic tubs do over a few years of daily use, and the diamond-cut surface pattern helps water and detergent circulate evenly around the load instead of pooling in one spot.
ABS Body Construction
The outer body is moulded from ABS plastic rather than sheet metal. It won't dent from a knock while moving the machine between rooms or floors, doesn't corrode in humid bathrooms or balconies, and keeps the overall unit lighter, which matters if your washing machine doesn't have one permanent spot.
Filter Type Changes With Capacity
7kg (EGWM-7.0) and 8kg (EGWM-8.0) models use a Lint Filter, a mesh bag that catches loose threads and fibre during the wash
9kg and above (EGWM-9.0 through EGWM-12.0) step up to a Double Magic Filter, a two-stage filter that catches finer lint and hair more thoroughly
The upgrade tracks load size logically, since bigger loads shed more lint per wash and benefit most from the extra filtering stage
What Changes Across the Range
| Capacity | Model | Motor | Filter Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7kg | EGWM-7.0 | 135W | Lint Filter |
| 8kg | EGWM-8.0 | 135W | Lint Filter |
| 9kg | EGWM-9.0 | 180W | Double Magic Filter |
| 10kg | EGWM-10.0 | 180W | Double Magic Filter |
| 11kg | EGWM-11.0 | 200W | Double Magic Filter |
| 12kg | EGWM-12.0 | 200W | Double Magic Filter |
Two Wash Programs, Not a Single Fixed Cycle
Every capacity ships with 2 wash programs rather than one fixed cycle, so you can match the wash to the load instead of running delicate fabrics through the same setting as heavily soiled ones. That's the main practical control you lose with a fully-automatic machine, where the program logic is built in and harder to override.
The Buzzer
Because a semi-automatic machine needs you to move clothes from the wash tub to the spin tub by hand, timing matters more than it does on a fully-automatic machine. The built-in buzzer sounds when a cycle finishes, so clothes don't sit soaking longer than intended while you're in another room.
Match motor wattage to household size rather than picking the biggest number. 135W on the 7kg and 8kg models and 180W to 200W on the 9kg to 12kg models are both sized correctly for their tub capacity, a bigger motor on a smaller tub doesn't wash any better.
People assume more features means more to go wrong. On a semi-automatic machine it's the opposite, every feature here, the pulsator, the filter, the buzzer, exists to make the manual steps easier, not to add complexity.
